SORRENTO TRACTOR UPDATE!
Tractor Auction

Thank you to all those who continued their support of Sorrento Centre through our recent Silent Auction. The auction raised close to $4,000! That plus other targeted donations have raised about $14,000 toward the purchase of the tractor.

Farmer Dave has negotiated the price down to $22,000 and successfully applied for a government grant to help.

We're short about $5,000. If 20 associates can donate $250 each, we're there! Please consider if a donation towards the tractor fits into your giving plan for this year. Thank you!

Tractor Fund-Raising Success!

With the addition of the Sorrento Centre Farm property we are now responsible for maintaining over 30 acres of land that includes roads, lawns, forest trails and a working farm.

Sorrento Centre produceIn order to efficiently manage our grounds and farm production we need a tractor. This tractor will help us do jobs including mowing, tilling, snow plowing, trench digging and moving large materials.

We successfully raised over $24,000 for our tractor fund during the 2010 and 2011 seasons through generous donations from many of our friends and associates as well as with raffles, a grant and our on-line auction [see auction here »]

We are inspired and excited at this tremendous show of support for the Sorrento Centre Farm!

Community Food Action Initiative
Interior Health Authority

The Interior Health Authority has recently invested $66,783.83 through the Community Food Action Initiative (CFAI) to support community food security projects in 16 communities throughout the region. The initiative is part of a province-wide strategy to promote food security programs and to encourage British Columbians to make healthy food choices.

CFAI is a collaborative effort between local communities, Interior Health's Community Nutritionists and the Ministry of Health Services. See Interior Healt announcement here » / and homepage here »

The Sorrento Centre Farm benefited from a $5000 grant toward our tractor fund through the Community Food Action Initiative.

Helping Us Grow Food for Those Most in Need

Our program of donating food to people in need is one of the ways that the Sorrento Centre Farm will expand. Our farm has the potential to increase our production to meet the needs of more people in our community.

We can expand our giving by developing new relationships with local charities. Financial contributions from donors to our farm will help us increase our produce production to meet the needs of those most in need.

Please contact the Sorrento Centre Office at 250-675-2421 if you are interested in supporting this project.
