Our Farm and Our Community
Sorrento Centre Farm is a vegetable and fruit farm located 2 km west of Sorrento. We grow produce for Sorrento Centre’s Dining Room and for local charities. We are seeking local people who are interested in volunteering on the farm in exchange for a share of the harvest. Read more »

Each year, Sorrento Centre looks for dynamic and energetic people to work in all departments. We normally hire 3 team leaders + 14 youth staff workers to join our staff for the summer months. All staff must be 16 years or older.

We also have volunteer positions available in these areas. Volunteering at the Centre is a valuable way for people to gain experience in many areas, or for experienced volunteers to share their gifts and gather in community.

Children and Youth Staff

These staff work with children (to age 13) and youth (ages 14–18). Throughout each week you are responsible for a group of children or youth. You will co-lead and participate with them in their planned activities.

Waterfront Supervisors (NLS Qualified)

In the afternoon, waterfront staff are lifeguards for the Sorrento community. They also plan activities for the youth and children programs at the waterfront. Children and Youth and Waterfront Staff are 5-week positions. At that point anyone in these positions will move to other departments for the remainder of August.

Kitchen Staff

Kitchen Staff work with our Head Cooks in preparing and serving meals, cleanup, and insuring that we are all well fed! This position has varied shifts and responsibilities.

Grounds & Maintenance Staff

These positions works with our Grounds and Maintenance Departments fixing, maintaining, building, and looking after our grounds and landscaping on site.

Housekeeping Staff

topWorking in housekeeping will include cleaning and upkeep of guests’ accommodations.

2012 Summer Staff and Leadership Team Application Information

February 2012

Thank you for your interest in our Summer Staff Positions at Sorrento Centre for 2012. The Deadline for Leadership Team applications is February 29, 2012 and for Summer Youth Staff applications March 31, 2012. Once the deadline for applications has passed we will begin the work on forming the staff team. Please do not expect to hear from us prior to that time. You will receive a confirmation email as soon as we’ve received your application.

Being part of the Summer Staff Team at Sorrento Centre provides you with more opportunities then just summer work. You will be provided with the:

  • Opportunity to experience living in community;
  • Opportunity for mentoring;
  • Opportunity for personal, spiritual and emotional development;
  • Opportunity to experience work in more then one department area;
  • Opportunity to be independent in a supportive environment;

We receive many applications for our Leadership Team and Summer Youth Staff team. When applying for a summer position, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. When sending your application please submit both your resumé and cover letter at the same time
  2. When we have received your application you will receive an email with one of two attachments. If you are a returning staff member you will receive a personal reflection form. Please prayerfully answer the reflection questions in a timely manner and email your responses to the email address that is provided. If you are a new applicant you will receive reference forms and information on how to have them completed.
  3. References are extremely important. Please make sure that you give a reference form to

    a) a teacher (if out of school, a previous employer),

    b) a priest, minister, or spiritual mentor

    c) open to your decision. Please do not use parents or grandparents as referees.

    • Completed reference forms can be either scanned and emailed to us (preferred method) or mailed to Sorrento Centre to the attention of Melissa Green, Summer Staff Coordinator by your referee.
  4. Sorrento Centre is Anglican in tradition, ecumenical in programming, and inclusive in welcome. We do not require our staff to be Anglican or Christian but expect that all hired staff are willing to attend and participate in community worship.
  5. As much as we’d love to accept every applicant into a staff position we are unable to. If you are not offered a position this year we encourage you to consider applying next year.
