THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S PAGE: WELCOME TO SORRENTO

Dear Friends

Course Presenter Brian SmithWelcome to the 2012 edition of the Sorrento Centre Program Guide. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about our program offerings for the next year.

Summer 2012

The highlight of our year is a series of one-week family retreats that happen over five weeks in July and August. We call this program “Five Weeks of Summer”. This is one of those magical times when extended families, blended families, and intentional families gather to learn, relax, reflect, and have fun. We have daily worship outdoors, adult educational programs every morning, afternoons on our very own beach with trained lifeguards, evening community activities, and a dynamic youth program morning and evening. [see "A typical summer day" here »]

Two Special Features

Each week is loaded with special events but the first and last week of our “Five Weeks of Summer” deserve special mention. In the first week of July we will have a special focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We have a psychologist who specializes in this issue, Alice Prichard, offering one of the adult programs and a holistic nutritionist, Kate Hutchinson, offering another adult program on nutrition and behaviour. This is in addition to three other adult programs at the same time. We are pleased to welcome Edmonton’s Bishop Jane Alexander as worship leader this week. [see "Five Weeks of Summer programs here »]

In the first week of August we will have a special focus on refugees. We are pleased to have with us Dr. Mambo Tabu Masinda and the Rev. Margaret Marquardt who will be leading a course for those who have come to Canada as refugees [see here »]. We already have five refugee families committed to come for that week. If your parish or group would like to sponsor a refugee family for that week, please contact Sorrento Centre.

Special Camping Promotion

During the “Five Weeks of Summer” we will have a special promotion on camping. If you have never been to Sorrento Centre before, or if you have been here but have not been here for the last five years, you automatically qualify for a $150 discount if you book a camping or RV site for the week. This will make a week’s stay at Sorrento Centre cheaper than staying in a Provincial Park! Spread the word! [see accommodations »]

Sorrento Centre Farm Continues to Grow

For many people one of the highlights of their Sorrento Centre experience is tasting and visiting the Sorrento Centre farm. This is 8 acres of heaven just down the road from the main Centre site. You will be able to visit the farm as we organize tours on a weekly basis. You will be able to taste the farm as we supply naturally grown, chemical-free produce for every meal, as the weather permits. [See farm pages here »]

Check for Updates

Things do change over the course of the year. So, please consult our website [ see latest news page www.sorrento-centre.bc.ca] for any new opportunities and any changes that have occurred since the 2012 Program Guide was printed (December 2011).

Sorrento Centre was created by gifts and expanded and sustained by even more gifts. This year’s program is our gift to you.

Enjoy!
