A typical day at Sorrento Centre
The rhythm of a typical day at Sorrento Centre allows all of our guests to experience a balance between times for learning and worshipping in a group setting and unstructured time for relaxation, contemplation and enjoyment of the natural wonders that the Shuswap has to offer.
Afternoons are free to spend with family and friends. You can pass the afternoon at our private beach, play a round of golf at one of the nearby golf courses, go for a hike or a canoe trip, have a drink at the Kinghorn Cappuccino Bar or just sit in the shade with a good book.
The evenings are a time to return to communal life at the Centre. Free public lectures are held Wednesdays at 7:15 pm. July 27: Ted Reeve - details » / August 3: Gail Bowen ». Sample some of the work being done by others in different programs than yours!
There are also special activities most evenings:
- Mondays we have a campfire and marshmallow roast on the beach
- Thursdays you can show off your hidden talents at the Variety Night
- Fridays we have a closing Eucharist at St. Francis Chapel, followed by a banquet dinner and capped off with a dance in Kekuli for young and old alike.
Music and worship have always played a special part in the life of Sorrento Centre. Every weekday morning begins with a brief service at St. Francis Chapel and music is always an important component. Each week we have music directors who plan the music for the services, and they are always on the lookout for anyone with musical gifts to share. Likewise, the day ends with an evening prayer service, utilizing a number of popular styles from Taizé prayers to Holden services. Again, of course, music is an integral feature.
