The Sorrento Centre invites graduate students to participate in a new sabbatical program with writers, artists, academics, clergy and other professionals. The Sorrento Centre is offering Fellowships to support graduate students in the 2012-2013 academic year. What We Offer
Students will be housed in dissertation cottages – single-person dwellings of approximately 400 sq. feet. The cottages are equipped with WiFi, a double bed, desk, lamp, table, chair, hot plate and bar fridge. Washrooms, laundry facilities, communal TV lounges and quiet reading rooms are available in a neighbouring building. The Sorrento Centre is a 23-acre retreat and conference centre located in Sorrento, British Columbia, walking distance from shops in town. Situated on scenic Shuswap Lake, it is approximately 2 hours north of Kelowna and 1 hour east of Kamloops in the Thompson Okanagan tourist area. What We Need From You
Participants will be asked to attend a one-hour weekly meeting with the Director of Sorrento Centre. The meetings will be structured like self-directed seminars, where participants describe their academic projects, offer support to one another and discuss ways to improve the quality of their experience at Sorrento.
The Cost
These accommodations normally rent for $2040 per month. Dinners normally cost $465 per month. However, we are also offering special Sorrento Fellowships, valued at $1500 per month, to be used to help offset the cost of food and housing. For students who commit to a minimum stay of 30 days, we are offering housing and one meal per day for a net cost of $1005 per month plus applicable taxes. Fellowships may be extended for longer stays.
To Apply For A Fellowship & Sabbatical Stay
Send a letter from your school’s registrar confirming your good standing in a graduate degree program, and a 1-2 page letter detailing your research or writing project. Send these to director@sorrento-centre.bc.ca. Please specify how long you would like to stay, and what your other needs may be. Our Director, Dr. Christopher Lind, will then contact you to discuss details of your participation.
