I Rejoiced When They Said Let’s Worship!
Leading Song in Groups
Linnea Good with Dan Hines
The art of leading group singing is an intuitive, as well as musical, one, drawing on our ability to read the mood and abilities of the group, the feel of the liturgical moment, the “message” we want to convey, the nudge of the Spirit, and a willingness to “accompany” the group on a spiritual journey. This week of singing and music-making is for people who would like to explore and deepen their skills in music and song-leading. The beginning portion of each day will be spent singing and playing for the sheer joy of it, learning new music,
savouring the songs we know, thinking creatively about music and worship. The latter portion will move us into skill-building in team song leadership, as we prepare to be the music resource group for each of the week’s liturgies.
LINNEA GOOD is a singer-songwriter and leader in the fields of music in worship, and all-ages worshipping together. Her background includes a Master of Religious Education with a specialty in music as an educational tool.
Through her performance, composition and writing, she has contributed to the spiritual life of people across North America, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. The two most recent of her many albums were nominated respectively for Top Children’s and Top Christian/Gospel Album by a variety of Canadian music associations.
DAN HINES serves as a ministry developer and priest for the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior. He enjoys innovation, collaboration, and the ongoing experimentation with new and ancient forms of liturgy, music and technology. He is also interested in `the gathering centre’ (with a nod to Phyllis Tickle) and the mutual sharing between diverse faith traditions.
