Demystifying Drawing:
How to Draw Objects (Live or Inanimate) Accurately
with Rob MacDermot
Despite what most people believe, drawing is less an innate talent than an acquired skill. It is not a mysterious talent; it is a technical skill which can be learned by anyone with reasonable eyesight, depth perception and perseverance. Whether you are a beginner or someone who has already acquired some drawing skills, Rob MacDermot will provide you with instruction in drawing techniques, and help you gain knowledge of how to render accurately and realistically from external models.
You will do a lot of drawing, primarily with “conte” crayons, pencils and charcoal. The course will explore Watteau’s “trois crayons” technique, which is particularly helpful for those interested in painting, particularly in oils, where preparation of a mid-tone canvas is the traditional method for creating dramatic depth effects. Whether you’re interested in drawing still life, landscape, portraits or the human figure, this course will provide you with basic skills, demystifying components such as perspective, anatomy, foreshortening, light and shade. As you develop these skills you may discover you have unsuspected talents after all!
Note: A required materials list will be sent to each registrant closer to the actual date of the course.
ROB MacDERMOT is an artist and studio session facilitator, schooled in the traditional Western European style. His main interest has been drawing the human figure, including portraits. Rob is also skilled at providing advice to students who wish to branch into other mediums. He is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
